The situation
Oh, the Places You'll Go! is a Dr. Seuss classic and a perennial gifting favorite. The opportunity was to own the graduation and milestone gifting moment — turning a beloved backlist title into the season's must-buy and standing out in a crowded gifting market across retail and digital.
My role
I led brand marketing end to end — positioning and messaging, campaign strategy, copy, creative direction across partners, retail and advertising assets, and an in-store event program — coordinating across editorial, sales, design, and Dr. Seuss Enterprises.
The approach
I built an integrated, milestone-driven campaign anchored on one idea: the gift they'll keep forever, for life's biggest moments.
Positioning & messaging: framed the book around graduation, retirement, and life's milestones — "A Graduation Gift They'll Keep Forever," "The Perfect Gift for Grads!," "For Life's Biggest Moments."
Advertising: gifting-season social and digital ads with clear "Buy Now" calls to action, timed to graduation season.
Retail: a floor display — "For Anyone Who's Off to Great Places!" — merchandising the book against graduation, retirement, and adventure gifting occasions.
Experiential: a Milestones Event Kit for in-store events — event guide and activities, character standees, postcards, a "Mountain Mover" milestones certificate, and sticker sheets — turning the book into a celebration families could take part in.
The result
Oh, the Places You'll Go! finished 2026 as the #1 juvenile title in the market — 464,000 units sold (Circana Bookscan, YTD through week 24), outselling every other children's title on the industry list, including The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brown Bear, Brown Bear.
